While applicable, the word “tutor” doesn’t fully define the individuals working in our Young Scholars Program. “Coach” might be a better word. Tiger Woods, for example, has kept the same swing coach (Hank Haney) for the past five years. Why? Why does the best golfer in the world use a coach? Because like all great athletes, Tiger Woods knows that he can always grow.
One of the best ways to improve success, on the fairway or in a classroom, is by having someone objectively observe your performance to help you find ways to improve.
Our Young Scholars Program provides your student with an “Academic Coach.” Someone who helps them identify and improve their academic strengths and weaknesses.
Everyone has weaknesses; the difference between the top performers and the rest of the pack is how they deal with them.
Our Young Scholars Program has one primary function: keeping Young Scholars on the edge of their potential… also known as their “skills-challenge continuum.” When students face challenges that are below their skill level, they become bored, disinterested, and unengaged. As a result, they stop growing. The key to keeping students engaged and growing is identifying their skill level and providing work that matches.
Appeton’s Young Scholars Program provides students with challenging work and experiences, keeping the work vigorous but not so difficult that students get frustrated and quickly give up. Each Young Scholar has an individualized program developed just for them by a Ph.D. Education Specialist. Our Education Specialist will develop a fun and challenging project around your Young Scholar’s interests and passions. This ensures that they will have fun and enjoy completing the project. However, in order to complete the project, they will have to master new and challenging skills.
When students master a skill or concept, their Academic Coach designs new work that is slightly more challenging. For students who are gifted, advanced, or just plain bored with school, the Young Scholars Program offers academic experiences and challenging coursework that will keep them engaged and excelling above and beyond the work they receive in most classrooms.
Many people think such an advanced and innovative program would be too expensive. However, at Appleton we are committed to keeping our programs affordable. Give us a call and find out more about this exciting program!
